Office Building support for Working Locations

What’s changing


Now you’re able to select a specific office building as your working location. The office building is taken into account for meeting room suggestions, and helps colleagues better understand where you plan to work from on a given day.

Why you’d use it 

Whether you’re suggesting a meeting room to your colleagues or want to know where someone might be working for the day, we hope this update makes planning in-person collaboration easier.


Additional details 

With this new feature, those who manage the calendars of others, such as Executive assistants, will also be able to update the working location of that calendar as long as they have access to make changes and manage sharing.


Getting started 

  • Admins: Working Location must be enabled for your organization in order to access this feature. Additionally, structured office buildings must be set in the admin console. Visit the Help Center to learn more about turning working location on or off for your organization.
  • End users: If enabled by your admin, you can select a structured building by choosing one of the following options:
    • Click on your Calendar schedule right under the date, navigate to the “Working location” tab > “Choose a location” > click the "+" icon > "Another office" > select your office building. 
    • Go to "Working hours & location" in your Calendar settings. Under the working location dropdown > click "Another office" > select your office building.
    • Visit the Help Center to learn more about setting your working hours & location.

Support for two simultaneous calls now available on Google Voice 
As part of our efforts to further improve our core calling features, Google Voice now offers the ability to place or receive a second call when you are on an ongoing call. You can quickly decide if you would like to take the second incoming call by placing the current call on hold or by hanging up the current call. You can also reject the second incoming call if you would rather not be interrupted right now.The feature is currently rolling out on Web and will roll out on Android and iOS in the coming weeks. | Available to Voice Starter, Standard, and Premier customers only. | Learn more

The new integrated view is now the standard experience for Gmail 
At the beginning of 2022, we announced a new integrated view for Gmail, bringing critical applications like Gmail, Chat, and Meet in one unified location. By August 5th, users who have not opted-in will begin seeing the new experience by default, but can revert to classic Gmail via settings. Within the next two months, this will become the default experience with no option to revert back. Use the Cloud Search Query API to set Suggest Filters to enhance Cloud Search results 
We’ve introduced Suggest Filters for Cloud Search. Using the Cloud Search Query API, admins can specify a filter condition that will be pre-applied to keyword suggestions as user types a query. Assignments audit data now available in the Admin console 
Google Workspace for Education admins can now view Assignments data in their audit logs. Better search and suggestion options in Gmail

Working Location enabled by default

Quick summary

Earlier this year, we announced an improved user interface for sharing your working location in Google Calendar. Starting today, you will be able to set your working location without having to first enable this feature in your Calendar settings. 


Getting started 

  • Admins: Working Location is ON by default and can be disabled at the domain or OU level. Current settings for your domain will remain the same unless updated in the Admin console. Visit the Help Center to learn more about turning working location on or off for your organization
  • End users: Unless disabled by your admin, this feature will be ON by default. There will be no major visual changes to your calendar unless you set your working location. Visit the Help Center to learn more about setting your working location

Rollout pace 

  • Rapid Release domains: Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) starting on July 26, 2022 
  • Scheduled Release domains: Extended rollout (potentially longer than 15 days for feature visibility starting on August 10, 2022

Rollout improvements for future Google Chat launches 
Going forward, all major user-facing feature changes and improvements to Google Chat will follow a rollout schedule in which accounts under Rapid Release will see new features first, followed by accounts under the default setting of Scheduled Release, at least 1 week later. We hope this change makes it easier for you to plan for new Google Chat updates. As a reminder, Admins can choose which release track they want their accounts to follow. | Learn more

You can now select an option to display events on your calendar only if they come from a sender you know to help keep your Calendar free from spam. | Learn more

Live stream Google Meet events via YouTube

Prevent spam by adding invitations from known senders only to your calendar

Quick summary

To help keep your Google Calendar free from spam, you can now select an option to display events on your calendar only if they come from a sender you know. If you select this option, you still get email event invitations from unknown senders, but they appear on your calendar only after you accept.

Senders you know include:
  • People in your same company domain (like @google.com)
  • People in your contacts list
  • People you’ve interacted with before
As before, you can also choose to have all invitations appear on your calendar, or only those you’ve accepted—letting you customize the display to best meet your needs. 



Additionally, admins can set the default reply option for their users in the Google Admin console. Note that end users can indicate their preference in their own Calendar settings.

The appointment scheduling feature allows people to share their availability via a booking page, which can be used by external stakeholders, clients, and partners to schedule a meeting. 

Starting today, we’re making it easier to share appointment schedules on web through a new Share button. This update allows appointment hosts to copy a short link to all appointment schedules or a specific booking page, and add HTML to embed a booking page on their website.

Export search results to .CSV files from the security investigation tool 
Admins can now download log event data from the security investigation tool as a .CSV file. This will allow admins to further analyze data outside of the tool. | Learn more

Picture-in-Picture and multi-pinning available for Google Meet in Chrome

Improved email notifications for Google Calendar invites

Quick summary

We’re refreshing the layout of emails sent by Google Calendar. By making key event details more accessible and useful, this update enables you to quickly find and act on an event’s most important information. 

In addition, when you receive an email notifying you of a modification to an event, such as a time or location change, it will display both the old and updated information.

  • End users: No action required.
