Game on!: YouTube at E3 2017

From the hotly anticipated reveal of Xbox’s Project Scorpio to the breathtaking trailer of Hideo Kojima’s “Death Stranding,” gamers around the world joined together in celebration at last year’s E3. It’s the most anticipated event of the year for us gamers, where we get to hit refresh on every blog, website and gaming stream to see what the next year has in store.

This year, YouTube is back again to give gamers around the world a front row seat to everything at E3 on our YouTube Gaming hub. Yesterday we began our exclusive two-day, 17-hour livestream hosted by Geoff Keighley and brought to you by Totino’s Pizza Rolls™. We saw the reveal of the Xbox One X and made live Tiltbrush Art in mixed reality, all in 4K Ultra HD. We're back today at 1 p.m. PT with more press releases, exclusive interviews, and discussion with YouTube's biggest names.

But the YouTube E3 coverage doesn’t stop there! From Tuesday, June 13, to Thursday, June 15, Rooster Teeth takes over with nonstop discussion of the big announcements, interviews with your favorite developers, and game demos from the show, presented by “War for the Planet of the Apes,” in theaters July 14.

Finally, YouTube.com/e3 will host the Trailer Battle for its ninth year in a row. With our annual showcase of the hottest trailers released at and around E3, you can watch and vote for your favorite trailers, collect items, and build your inventory to save the multiverse! Be sure to come back the following week to see if your favorites made the top 5.

The Clash Royale King’s Cup, live on YouTube Gaming

Sound the horns! The King has declared a tournament to host the most skilled Clash Royale players in the land. Who among you can beat his champions and take the King’s Cup?

We are proud to present the King’s Cup Live on YouTube Gaming, a first-of-its-kind major tournament event featuring the second largest mobile title on YouTube this year, Clash Royale. The tournament will take place on Sunday, November 6, live in Los Angeles with a prize pool of $100,000.

Competitors from all over the world will attend this open event to qualify to play against eight of the top Clash Royale creators from YouTube. Come sharpen your swords and ride your hogs and take down our legendary Clash Royale creators:


Can't battle? No worries! Watch the tournament live exclusively on YouTube Gaming and YouTube. There'll be awesome gameplay, fun interviews, and even opportunities to win prizes. Running alongside the tournament will be a limited time, in-game “King’s Cup Special Event Challenge” where players can join for free and play with cards they haven’t yet unlocked! This special event will be available on iOS and Android between Friday, November 4, and Sunday, November 6.

YouTube brings E3 to you wherever you are

Last year, millions of gamers came together on YouTube for the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). We watched as Bethesda unveiled “Fallout 4,” and many of us had our prayers answered when Square Enix shared a first look at the “Final Fantasy VII” remake. For more than a few gamers, E3 is the must-see gaming event of the year, an annual moment that defines the industry (and our collective wallets) for the coming 12 months.

YouTube will give gamers around the world front-row access to everything E3 again this year with dozens of live streams scheduled throughout the week. To make moments like this even better, we are launching event pages in YouTube Gaming, which serve as destinations for watching the biggest gaming and eSports events. Kicking things off, we’ll have a unique event hub for E3, available at gaming.youtube.com/e3 in June.

A home for live streams and on-demand videos, the YouTube Gaming E3 hub will put all our E3 coverage in one place. You’ll be able to browse videos and streams, chat live with fellow gamers, vote for your favorite trailers in the legendary Trailer Battle, and catch up on announcements you might have missed.

Coverage begins on Sunday, June 12, with early press conferences from EA and Bethesda. Stay tuned on YouTube after the press conferences because you won't want to miss post-coverage from our friends at Rooster Teeth - who will be streaming from the conference throughout the week.

The play-by-play coverage continues on Monday, June 13 at 9 a.m. PT, with YouTube Live at E3, an exclusive 12-hour stream hosted by Geoff Keighley and brought to you by Samsung. Live at E3 will bring you the live coverage of press conferences you crave along with developer interviews, live let’s plays of new games you won’t find anywhere else, and surprise guests like MatPat, iHasCupquake and CaptainSparklez.

Inviting more players to the game

The YouTube Gaming team has been on a six-month speedrun. Last summer, we released an app and website designed to connect gamers with each other, and with the creators and content they love. Since then, we’ve enabled Mobile Capture, so you can record and live stream mobile gameplay on-the-go directly from Android devices, and we’ve introduced Sponsorships in beta, which makes it easy to back your favorite gamers while receiving extra perks including a live chat badge chosen by the creator and access to exclusive chat sessions.

Now we’re inviting more players to the game. Starting today, the YouTube Gaming mobile app will be available on iOS and Android in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland, homes to top gaming creators like jacksepticeye, Vanoss, and TypicalGamer. Many more countries are coming soon, so get ready.

YouTube Gaming is built just for gamers, and we asked you to tell us how to make it the best way to connect with your community. Today we’re sharing some new ways we're helping you find and watch awesome videos and live streams based on feedback we’ve heard:

  • Homepage navigation: Say goodbye to the sidebars! We’ve simplified the homepage to make it easier to find what you’re looking for.
  • Game and channel browsing: We’ve added pages for you to manage your games and channels, plus discover new ones.
  • Dedicated live destination: You’ll find a new “Live” tab on the homepage that brings together top streams, top games, and streams from channels you’re subscribed to.
  • Android live playback: Our Android live stream player joins iOS and the HTML5 desktop player with an upgrade to support quality switching, 60fps playback, and DVR mode.
  • Pop-out player: On Android, you can now pop out the YouTube Gaming player to keep it visible above other apps on your device.

You heard it from us at the Tokyo Game Show and now it’s here to stay. You can now record and live stream mobile gameplay on-the-go directly from Android devices using Mobile Capture on YouTube Gaming. You don’t need any additional hardware or software—just tap Go Live (or your avatar on a phone) in the YouTube Gaming app, turn on your selfie cam and record your commentary with your phone’s microphone.



Narrate and react to your gameplay using the phone’s microphone and a selfie-cam overlay. Entertain and interact with your audience via live chat. Go live and capture all Android games today! 

Sponsorships: Making it easy to back your favorite gamers
Support the live streams and videos you love with Fan Funding and Sponsorships, now in beta to a small group of creators. For a monthly payment, sponsors receive extra perks including a live chat badge chosen by the creator and access to exclusive chat sessions. We’ll continuously expand the list of beta channels, so keep your eyes peeled!



Other new and improved features

A YouTube built for gamers

As a kid, I spent hours on the living room couch playing video games with friends, taking turns trying to beat Ganon in "Ocarina of Time" and trading Pokémon until I had all 151. Soon controller passing and Game Boy link cables gave way to network multiplayer and PC LAN parties. Eventually, my living room became a virtual one, with a network of gamers sharing experiences and discoveries. 

Today, the gaming world is much more diverse than the one I grew up with, and the community has created new formats that have made gaming more collaborative and interactive. On YouTube, gaming has spawned entirely new genres of videos, from let’s plays, walkthroughs, and speedruns to cooking and music videos. Now, it’s our turn to return the favor with something built just for gamers.

Live streams bring the gaming community closer together, so we’ve put them front-and-center on the YouTube Gaming homepage. And in the coming weeks, we’ll launch an improved live experience that makes it simpler to broadcast your gameplay to YouTube. On top of existing features like high frame rate streaming at 60fps, DVR, and automatically converting your stream into a YouTube video, we’re redesigning our system so that you no longer need to schedule a live event ahead of time. We’re also creating single link you can share for all your streams.

YouTube Gaming will be available this summer, starting in the U.S. and U.K. We’re building this just for gamers—so we want to hear from you about how we can make it the best way to connect with your community.
