Google Workspace Updates Weekly Recap – May 9, 2025

Unless otherwise indicated, the features below are available to all Google Workspace customers, and are fully launched or in the process of rolling out. Rollouts should take no more than 15 business days to complete if launching to both Rapid and Scheduled Release at the same time. If not, each stage of rollout should take no more than 15 business days to complete.


Enhance your Google Keep notes on web with rich text formatting
Building on the rich text formatting options introduced to Google Keep notes on Android, we’re excited to announce the expansion of this to Keep on web. Now users can customize and add emphasis to their text through bolding, underlining, italicizing, and heading styles on web. | Rolling out now to Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. | Available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual Subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts. | Visit the Help Center to learn more about creating or editing a note.

2.5 Pro Preview: our latest Pro experimental model is now available in the Gemini app 
We’re pleased to introduce Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview, the latest evolution of our 2.5 Pro experimental model. 2.5 Pro Preview continues to improve on the execution of complex tasks and delivery of enhanced response accuracy previously found in 2.5 Pro experimental. More specifically, 2.5 Pro Preview is powering features like Canvas, and enabling anyone to vibe code and build interactive web apps with a single prompt – check out this announcement for more information. | Rollout to Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains is complete. | Available to all Google Workspace users with access to the Gemini app. | Visit the Help Center to learn more about using Gemini Apps with a work or school Google Account and which models are available to you. 

Audio Overview in the Gemini app is now available in 45 additional languages 
Earlier this year, we introduced Audio Overview for the Gemini app, and as of today, this feature is now available in 45 additional languages. Leveraging the same technology that powers NotebookLM’s Audio Overviews, Gemini app users can now generate podcast-style conversations based on documents, slides, and Deep Research reports. | Rolling out now to Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. | Available to all Google Workspace users with access to the Gemini app. | For more information, please refer to our original announcement or visit our Help Center.

Pre-configure Gemini app conversation history admin settings before they take effect 
Starting this week, Workspace admins can pre-configure the new Gemini conversation history admin settings before they take effect for their Gemini app users (expected by the end of May 2025). By default, “Gemini conversation history” will be ON and ”Conversation retention” will be set to 18 months (inline with current behavior). | Learn more about the new admin setting. 

Gmail will soon stop support for the 3DES encryption cipher for incoming SMTP connections 
Starting May 30, 2025, we will no longer support the Triple Data Encryption Standard (3DES) for incoming SMTP connections. After May 30, 2025, email systems using 3DES for SMTP connections will be unable to deliver emails to Gmail accounts. | Learn more about support for the 3DES encryption cipher. 

Granular OAuth consent in HTTP Google Workspace add-ons 
Granular OAuth consent is rolling out over the next few weeks for Google Workspace add-ons built using HTTP endpoints. Granular consent gives users clear choices about the data they share with third-party applications. | Learn more about Granular OAuth consent. 

Generate custom video clips in Google Vids with Veo 2 
We’re adding the ability to generate high-quality, custom video clips directly within Vids using Veo 2. | Learn more about custom video clips in Vids with Veo 2.

Conduct in-depth two-way conversations with Gemini Live
The Gemini mobile app now supports voice conversations for Google Workspace users. The “Live” feature leverages Gemini’s multi-modal capabilities allowing you to ask questions and receive spoken responses in a selection of natural-sounding voices. | Learn more about Gemini Live.

Gemini app reporting now available for all Google Workspace for Education customers 
Earlier this year, we introduced Google Vault support for the Gemini app on web and mobile for select Google Workspace editions. Beginning today, this functionality is available for Google Workspace Education Fundamentals customers as well. | Learn more about Gemini app.
