Get more global coverage while you travel with Google Fi

When you land in another country after a long flight and turn on your phone, you expect it to just work. Booking a cab, contacting your hotel or letting your loved ones know you arrived safely should be painless. With Google Fi, we make it easy to manage those moments when you’re traveling internationally. And today, we’re announcing several improvements to Fi coverage to help you stay connected on more types of phones and in more places.

Access more international 5G coverage

We’re tripling our international 5G network coverage by adding 5G to 26 more countries and making it available on compatible Samsung phones. So if you’re on the Flexible or Unlimited Plus plan and have a compatible Pixel or a Samsung Galaxy S22 series phone, you can now enjoy 5G speeds in 39 countries.

Even if you’re not using one of those devices, you can still get full-speed 4G coverage with Fi in over 200 countries. If you’re on the Unlimited Plus plan, there are no separate data caps on international coverage — so while you travel, you can use unlimited high-speed data up to 50 GB included in your plan. This is in addition to the fast coverage you already get on all Fi plans, including nationwide 5G[4162af]for supported phones.

We’ll expand 5G coverage to more countries over time so you can stay connected no matter where your travels take you.

Use your iPhone as a hotspot abroad

Our Flexible and Unlimited Plus plans include automatic international coverage in more than 200 countries and territories, with no extra setup required. And if you have an Android phone on either of these plans, you can already use hotspot tethering while abroad. That means you can use your phone as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot to share its internet connectivity with your tablet, laptop or other devices. Now, international hotspot tethering is available on iPhone, too.

Make Wi-Fi calls on your iPhone

If you have an Android phone on Fi and you’re in an area where your cellular coverage may not be as strong, like in a large building or underground on the subway, you can already use Wi-Fi to make phone calls if it’s available. Now, we’re bringing Wi-Fi calling to iPhone.

On both Android and iPhone, if both Wi-Fi and cellular networks are available, Fi will route your call over whichever one gives you the best connection. If you’re traveling abroad, Wi-Fi calling can even help reduce calling costs, depending on the country you’re in.

Get more value from your phone plan

We’re always working to give you even more value, and a few months ago, we announced reduced pricing for our unlimited phone plans and feature updates. With today’s coverage updates, you’ll see no changes to the price of your phone plan.

The Unlimited Plus plan starts at just $40 per month per line for four or more lines, and includes 100 GB of cloud storage with Google One for each person on the plan. If you don’t need international features, the Simply Unlimited plan starts at $20 per month per line for four or more lines. The Flexible plan will continue to help you save if you use less data, at $17 per month per line for four lines for unlimited calls and text, plus $10 per GB for data at home and abroad.

Whether you’re an international traveler or a homebody, all our plans include fast coverage, privacy and security features to protect your personal information, and family features to help you block contact from strangers, set data budgets, share your location with family members and more.

More phones on Fi, more choices for you

Everyone deserves a phone that meets their needs -- at Google Fi, we want to help you find a phone that's just right. Today we’re adding three new Motorola phones to the list of phones available on Google Fi: the Moto G Play,  Moto G Power and the Motorola One 5G Ace. And, for a limited time, if you sign up with Fi, you can get any Motorola phone for free with Fi service credit. So let’s take a look at the latest three options:

Moto G Play

People consistently tell us how much they get out of their Motorola phones for such an affordable price. Now, we’re introducing our most affordable phone ever with the Moto G Play, which starts at just $99 and has an impressive charge.

Moto G Power

If you’re looking for a big screen and a capable camera, check out the Moto G Power. It has an ultra-wide 6.6-inch screen and three cameras, and starts at $199.

Motorola One 5G Ace

Finally, we have the Motorola One 5G Ace, which brings 5G at our most affordable price point yet. The 5G Ace has access to our nationwide 5G network and starts at just $279 (where available).1

And just in case you want even more options, good news: Since last fall, we’ve tripled our phone selection with the latest Samsung and Pixel flagship phones, including the Samsung S21 5G series, which comes with the latest Qualcomm chipset, improved camera and hardware and a whole new design, at a great price -- currently $300 off through March 9.

On Google Fi, that means being able to join from the comfort of your home, connecting all your devices with full-speed tethering at no extra charge, and choosing a plan that’s right for you—whether that’s the Unlimited plan or just paying for what you use.

We’ve heard that you want to see the full Fi experience brought to a wider selection of phones, so today we're expanding our designed for Fi portfolio to include new 5G phones from Samsung and Google. With these phones, you’ll get the benefits of Fi, plus a faster connection with 5G coverage nationwide included as part of your plan.1

Google Fi brings spam warnings and Wi-Fi calling to more phones

No matter what phone you use with Google Fi, our phone plan in the U.S., you’ll get great features—like reliable coverage, easy group plans and high speed international data coverage for the same rates you pay at home.

We’ve been working to bring the Google Fi experience to more people across the U.S., and last year we expanded Fi plans to the majority of Android devices and iPhones. Today, we’re bringing some favorite Fi features to these devices.

Spam call warnings and the ability to block specific numbers are now available on all phones compatible with Fi—including iPhone—so you don’t have to worry about unwanted calls.

Plus, we are extending our enhanced VPN network and WiFi calling to all Android phones on Fi. When you use our enhanced VPN network, all of your cellular and WiFi traffic are encrypted so you have peace of mind, knowing nobody else can see your online activity. And with WiFi calling, you can make and receive calls as long as you have a WiFi connection, even when you don’t have cellular coverage.

To use these features, download the Google Fi app and then look for Phone Settings in the app.
