GFiber celebrates 10 years in Miami

In the vibrant city of Miami, Google Fiber proudly marked a decade of connecting lives and fostering community. The Miami GFiber team recently celebrated this milestone with sponsoring a movie night held on Brickell Key Properties, the very first property to get  Google Fiber Webpass service in Miami in 2013.

Serving over 300 apartment and condominium communities across Miami, GFiber has offered fast, reliable connectivity for over a decade, and we’re continuing to connect new communities in the area every day.

We constantly work to make sure our customers get more than what they need from our service. Getting to work in Bellevue, Nebraska

In September, Google Fiber announced that we are planning to bring fast, reliable internet to Bellevue, Nebraska. We’re currently in the planning process and intend to start construction this winter with the goal of starting to offer service to our first customers in the city by the middle of the year.

In Bellevue, we’re working with a new construction vendor for us — ALLO Fiber — to build our network. A Nebraska-based company, ALLO Fiber has connected residents in the state for the past 20 years, and is ready to hit the ground running. In fact, that’s why we’re able to start building the network so quickly — matching our fastest time from announcement to construction ever in Mesa, AZ! We’re looking forward to working together to bring GFiber’s award-winning internet service into homes across the city.

The City of Bellevue is committed to bringing better internet to their residents, and GFiber is looking forward to being a part of that connected future. We’re excited to be working with an innovative, like-minded local company to make it happen. We’ll continue to look for new ways to deliver quality internet services to communities ever more rapidly. If you are interested in updates on our progress in Bellevue and availability in your area, sign up here.

Google Fiber Webpass now available in Charlotte

Google Fiber Webpass has made its grand entrance in Queen City, Charlotte, North Carolina. Charlotte joins Austin,TX and Nashville,TN as locations where we offer two different options for fast, reliable internet- available either through our fiber-to-the-home network or a simple but powerful combination of fiber-optic and wireless technology.

Google Fiber Webpass is a point to point wireless technology that links apartments, condominiums and offices through millimeter wave and wireless radio technology connecting more people to high speed internet in a concentrated populated area. This option offers browsing speeds of up to 1 Gig through a mesh network that utilizes both wireless and fiber optic components.

Charlotte, NC has become a thriving city and is ranked high as one of the best places to live and also one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. Access to fast and reliable internet will provide enhanced opportunities for residents to study and work from home, stream favorite shows and enjoy gaming online. Condominiums like The Madison have started enjoying the benefits of Google Fiber Webpass. We will continue converting one Ethernet-wired building at a time- allowing more and more residents to stay connected, furthering our commitment towards fast and reliable internet service for everyone.

The Google Fiber Charlotte Team is excited to bring the option of high speed internet service via Google Fiber Webpass to Charlotteans. To find out if service will be available in your building, check availability here.

Google Fiber is busy in North – and now South – Carolina!

Google Fiber is continuing to grow in the Carolinas! As we continue to build out our networks in Charlotte (CLT) and Research Triangle (RDU), we just announced our intention to build our first city in South Carolina – Tega Cay on beautiful Lake Wylie as we expand our service area in the greater Charlotte Metro area.

Earlier today, we joined SC Governor Henry McMaster, Mayor Chris Gray and many more new friends to celebrate the news. We expect to start construction in the Tega Cay area in early 2024 and serve our first customers there later in the year.

Meanwhile, we’ve been busy in the Old North State, too. J.D. Power recently ranked us #1 in customer satisfaction in the South Region, and we’re working to set that bar even higher. We rolled out 5 Gig service in CLT and RDU, and 8 Gig in CLT (with RDU on the way later this year).

In Charlotte, we are expanding our reach to Concord and Huntersville. And in the Raleigh-Durham region, we’re adding Garner and Hillsborough while continuing to build out Durham, Chapel Hill/Carrboro, Apex, Raleigh and new neighborhoods in other existing cities.

As always, we’re working with local organizations to make an impact across the communities we serve, especially on digital equity and STEM education. In September, we joined CLT’s E2D (Eliminate the Digital Divide) to send 1,000 kids back to school equipped with refurbished laptops.

In keeping with our strong commitment to the FCC’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), we’ve added a new service plan for ACP participants. 300 Meg provides symmetrical uploads and downloads of up to 300 mbps for $30 a month. With the government subsidy, this product is available at no cost to eligible customers. Google Fiber was founded on the ideal of giving more people access to fast, reliable internet at an accessible price – and ACP delivers just that.

And we’re not slowing down. As we continue to expand our network to more of the Carolinas, we are revved up and ready to do great things across these communities.

Internet fit for a Queen — 8 Gig now available in Charlotte, North Carolina

First it was Mesa, Arizona, then it was West Des Moines, Iowa — and now Google Fiber is excited to announce Charlotte, North Carolina as the third city to launch 8 Gig speed. Charlotte customers have even more choice when it comes to their internet needs. The 8 Gig plan includes symmetrical upload and download speeds up to 8,000 Mbps, a Wi-Fi 6 router (or you can use your own), up to 2 mesh extenders for strong WI-Fi coverage, and professional installation with Google Fiber’s dedicated customer service all for the price of $150/month.

With the introduction of the symmetrical 8 Gig internet, Google Fiber is embracing the future of connectivity and setting a new standard for internet speed and reliability not just based on current needs but future needs as well. With up to 8000 Mbps upload and download speeds customers can enjoy near instantaneous downloads, 8k streaming, minimal lag gaming and rapid data uploads.

As we said last week, Google Fiber will continue pushing what “fast” means when it comes to internet service. We believe that everyone deserves fast, reliable, fairly priced internet without contracts, data caps or installation fees. Charlotteans can find more information or check service availability here.

Google Fiber expands to Murfreesboro, Tennessee

It’s already been a busy summer for Google Fiber in Middle Tennessee with big announcements in Franklin and Smyrna — and it’s getting even hotter. Today, the Murfreesboro City Council approved a license agreement which will enable us to bring fast, reliable internet to one of the fastest growing cities in the country.

Our engineering team is getting to work on network design, which is the first step in our construction process, and we’ll be working closely with the City of Murfreesboro on permitting throughout the project. We expect to kick off construction early in 2024 and plan to serve our first customers in Murfreesboro later in the year. Residents who are interested in staying up to date on the construction process and service availability can sign up here

Thank you to the Mayor and City Council for their leadership. They had a clear vision of ensuring access to high speed internet for residents and local businesses. Google Fiber is looking forward to being a part of Murfreesboro’s connected future.

Google Fiber is expanding to another Colorado city — Wheat Ridge.

Google Fiber is getting deeply rooted in Wheat Ridge, Colorado!

Yesterday, the Wheat Ridge City Council unanimously passed an agreement which will allow GFiber to deliver high speed internet to residents and businesses in the community.

Wheat Ridge is our third fiber-to-the-home city in the Rocky Mountain state, joining Lakewood and Westminster, which were announced within the past year. We’ve been active in the Denver area since 2017, providing gigabit speeds with Google Fiber Webpass to apartments and condominiums in the city.

Wheat Ridge has long been known for growing beautiful things — in fact, it’s known as Carnation City, because of the many carnation farms that were once located here. GFiber is looking forward to growing something special for residents here as well, connecting them to high quality internet.

We expect to start construction in 2024 and begin serving customers later next year. Anyone looking for more information on service availability or the construction process can sign up for updates. Additionally, we are hiring in the Denver area — if you are interested in joining our team, please check out our website.

Keeping Austin Wired! 5 Gig now available in Austin as Google Fiber continues growth and investment across Central Texas

Greetings from Texas — where everything is bigger, including our Austin fiber network, which has grown in leaps and bounds since you last heard from us. It’s not just bigger, it’s also faster. As of today, customers across Austin can sign up for 5 Gig which comes with symmetrical upload and download speeds up to 5,000 mbps, an included Wi-Fi 6 router, up to two mesh extenders, a 10 Gig Fiber Jack, and professional installation for $125 month.

And 5 Gig will be available in a lot more places as new construction areas are connected to our network and we open sign-ups for service in new neighborhoods. We’ve continued to grow our network within the City of Austin, and we’ve also begun serving customers in several Travis County neighborhoods located just outside of Austin’s city limits. And we’ll be kicking off construction in both Round Rock and West Lake Hills in the coming months.

We also recently announced expansion to Rollingwood, and our team is in conversations with many other surrounding communities about bringing GFiber to their residents and businesses. We’re working to bring better internet to more people across Central Texas, and hope to have more to share soon.

Our investment in the Austin community has continued to deepen as our network has grown. GFiber’s Gigabit Community program, in collaboration with the Housing Authority of the City of Austin (HACA), continues to expand — launching three new communities over the last two years serving hundreds of additional households in need with free gigabit internet, along with devices and digital skills training. This brings the total number of Austin families served by the program to over 1,300.

Next up is Espero at Rutland, which will support our community's goal to transition our homeless neighbors into long term housing.

Our Community Connections program, which kicked off in 2013, also continues to grow — GFiber now provides gigabit internet to more than 50 local community organizations and institutions in Austin at no cost. Since our last city update, we’ve connected 18 new Community Connections, including:

As our network reaches new neighborhoods and cities, more organizations become eligible for this program, and we’ll continue to help them meet their internet needs so they can serve their constituencies and their missions.

Along with these two primary programs, Google Fiber continues to work with local organizations to increase access to quality internet and to build digital literacy and STEM skills across Austin.

Working with Foundation Communities, Google Fiber is providing gigabit internet to those transitioning to permanent housing. Additionally, we’re supporting Community Tech Network’s efforts to get more Austinites enrolled in the Affordable Connectivity Program, a federal program that provides $30 a month for internet service to those who are eligible.

However, internet access without the ability to navigate the online world won’t get you anywhere. Recent partnerships with amazing local organizations working to ensure everybody has the digital skills they need to thrive include:

As you can see, we’ve got a lot going on in Austin — and it’s all speeding up (literally!) with 5 Gig coming online now. Additionally, we’ll start testing 20 Gig service in Austin later this year.

If you are looking for how to keep up on what’s happening in your neighborhood, you can sign up for updates here. And follow us on social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) to get the latest news from throughout the Central Texas region.

Our first city in Idaho – Pocatello

Today, we’re pleased to announce plans to build a Google Fiber network in Pocatello, Idaho — our first city in the Gem State! We’re quite excited to deliver high-speed, gigabit internet to customers in Idaho, and adding another state continues to expand our reach. As the “Gateway to the Northwest,” Pocatello could not be a more fitting place to start.

We’re kicking off the engineering process and working with the city to get ready for construction, which we expect to start late this year. We plan to begin connecting Pocatello residents and businesses to fast, reliable internet in the middle of 2024. Sign up for updates on our progress here.

We all know great things come from the ground in Idaho, and we’re looking forward to putting something pretty special in the ground there, too.

Mesa here we come! (And superfast, too — sign-up for 5 Gig AND 8 Gig!)

It’s time, Arizona! Beginning today, we’re offering service to our first Arizona customers in the Westwood neighborhood of Mesa. They will also be the first Google Fiber customers with the opportunity to experience our 8 Gig product, our fastest internet ever.

We marked the occasion by treating some Mesa residents to breakfast and coffee at Renegade Coffee, including Vice-Mayor Francisco Heredia, who represents the Westwood area, and Council Member Jennifer Duff. Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate with us.

For the first time anywhere, residential customers in Mesa can sign up for Google Fiber’s 8 Gig service for $150 per month. 8 Gig offers symmetrical uploads and downloads of up to 8000 Mbps with a wired connection, along with a Wi-Fi 6 router (which allows for up to 800 mbps over Wi-Fi) and up to two mesh extenders. Or residential customers can choose one of our other fast, reliable products — Google Fiber’s flagship 1 Gig service for $70 a month, 2 Gig for $100 a month or 5 Gig for $125 — ALL of these offer symmetrical uploads and downloads. No matter what the household needs, we’ve got the right speed to meet it. Local businesses can select either our new Business 2 Gig service for $250 per month or Business 1 Gig for just $100 per month.

This is just the beginning for Google Fiber in Arizona. We’re continuing to build out our network in Mesa, and will start construction later this year in Chandler. As new segments are completed, we’ll offer service in those neighborhoods. Residents who want to keep up on the construction process or service availability in their area can sign up here.
