What’s changing
We’re introducing search chips in Gmail, an easier way to sort and filter search results to find exactly what you’re looking for faster.For example, you can search a colleague’s name and further narrow your results by selecting search chips like attachment type (Text document, Spreadsheet, PDF) or a specific timeframe. You can also filter out certain results, like calendar invites.

We’ve heard from our users that searching in Gmail could be faster and more intuitive.
With search chips, you can easily refine your search results and find what you’re looking for faster, without needing to sort through irrelevant returns or use search operators (like from: [email protected]).
How to get started
Admins: There is no admin control for this feature.
End users: This feature is available by default. When searching in Gmail, you can further refine your search results by clicking on the search filter chips below the search box.
Rollout pace
- Rapid and Scheduled Release domains: Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) starting on February 19, 2020
